Tunable laser sources

The CoBrite Ecosystem – Tunable Laser Sources for cutting edge research

Introducing our CoBrite tunable narrow linewidth laser ecosystem. Designed with simplicity and versatility in mind, CoBrite offers multiple chassis options and laser variants, making it an essential tool for researchers in the lab and on the production floor. With tunability options in the C-band, L-band, or C+L band, from a single source or in configurations of more than 100 ports, there’s a CoBrite configuration to suit virtually every application. We keep expanding the CoBrite ecosystem to address new applications and market requirements when they arise.

CoBrite laser tuning principle

Each CoBrite laser variant offers two tuning modes: coarse and fine. In coarse tuning, users can access the full specified tuning range, while fine tuning enables precise frequency adjustment by offsetting the coarse tuning set point within a small range.

Coarse tuning mode description

This tuning mode enables laser frequency adjustment across the specified range for the laser port. During the tuning process, the output gets briefly disabled.

Tuning Process Description:

  1. Output is switched off.
  2. Output is re-activated using the new frequency.
  3. Power is gradually increased until the final output power is attained. Maximum tuning durations vary by laser type; consult the specifications for specifics.
  4. Power stabilizes, completing the tuning process.

Fine tuning principle

Fine tuning permits laser-detuning within a narrow range from the target frequency set by the coarse tuning parameter. During the tuning process, the laser will detune to the target setting with output power active, changing the output frequency in a linear ramp. Tuning resolution depends on the laser type; please refer to the specifications of the different laser types.

Tuning Process:

  1. Tuning is initiated.
  2. Tuning process takes approximately 1 second per GHz.
  3. Power remains constant throughout the process; laser settles on the new value.

CoBrite Overview Chassis and Types

The CoBrite DX Series offers a versatile, full-feature stand-alone solution, with a touchscreen user interface for intuitive operation in a chassis for up to 4 laser sources.

The CoBrite DX1 Series, with its single laser source housed in a benchtop chassis, is the simplest and most cost-efficient solution within the CoBrite family.

The CoBrite DX2 Series offers a compact, full-feature chassis for 1 or 2 laser sources and an installation-free web GUI.

The CoBrite MX series is a 19-inch compatible chassis offering the highest laser source density on the market, with up to 48 field installable laser ports. All laser ports are easily controlled from a single controller.
